Outdoors

My DBF Jon and I both love live theater, and one summer tradition is to head north into Spring Green Wisconsin to take in 2-3 outdoor productions at American Players Theatre. They began as a Shakespeare company, but over the years have added plays by playwrights such as Shaw and, in the case of this show, Edna Ferber. This is the set for The Royal Family, a comedy that, according to the playbill, was loosely patterned after the life of the Barrymore family. The trees through the set windows are real, and after the sun goes down, we are often treated to bats flying through the scene. :-)

  1. It's been awhile since we've been to Spring Green. Theatre has a lot in common with photography in that it presents innumerable stage pictures composed three dimensionally using actors, sets and lighting to create mood and meaning. This neat set offers different floor levels, railings, furniture and props to facilitate interesting compositions. Wish we were there to see the rest of the pictures!

  3. Looks like a heap of fun! I was going to say "Who done it"? "Who removed the roof"?

  5. Hi Val,
Awesome picture. Until I read the story, I thought it was a dollhouse miniature. Have a great day!
